Improve Construction Safety Compliance
Despite your best efforts, safety violations can and do happen. Improved construction safety compliance is a beneficial side effect of using video for construction management.
The presence of a videographer on the construction site makes workers pay more attention to safety. This is known as the Hawthorne Effect, after a 1955 study that found that observing workers caused short-term improvements in performance.
In the course of making custom construction video, our cameramen have incidentally captured lapses in construction safety compliance such as:
-
Electrical workers without safety goggles and steel toe boots
-
A roofing worker dangling from a rooftop by a rope tied to his belt
-
No safety fence on the roof
-
Two roofers on one tie line
-
One roofing worker holding another worker’s tie line
-
Workers handling asbestos without proper gear
-
Workers throwing asbestos into dumpsters
Wouldn’t you want to know if any of that was happening on your job?
As a result of having video on demand, project managers spotted these potentially disastrous construction safety violations and called them to the attention of subcontractors and supervisors for immediate action.
